Description
In July 1811 , explorer David Thompson happened upon the Okanogan River . The Hudson Bay Company settled at the River's mouth , and built the stockade called Fort Okanogan . On July 3 , 1911 people of surrounding towns came together to honor and commemorate the Fort's anniversary with a flag raising ceremony . The Commercial Club of Okanogan donated the flagpole and flag . In this photo the people stand below the pole with hats raised as the American Flag ascends to the top of the pole .

Original photographic prints were scanned as 300 dpi TIFF files on a Microtek 9600XL scanner. 72 dpi JPEG files were then added to the CONTENT database at the WSU Libraries.
