Description
July 3 1911 , the people of Okanogan and nearby towns gathered in honor of the 100th Anniversary of the site of Fort Okanogan . The Commercial Club of Okanogan donated the commemorative American Flag and flagpole , and a series of speeches were given regarding the historical significance of the Fort , the early settlers , and how it was before coming of the missionaries . Reverend Edwin Ells , the eldest surviving male settler in Washington Territory , also spoke a prayer in Native American Chinook language .
