Photographer
Matsura , Frank , 1873-1913 .
Description
A proposal put by a joint stock company of Okanogan citizens , the Auditorium was completed by the summer of 1910 . Its design was based on the large auditoriums in Chelan and Twisp . Outside dimensions were 62 x 90 feet . Inside it was 50 x 60 feet of main floor , with side aisles 5.5 feet wide and balconies 7 feet wide running the length of three sides . There were also two balcony-level dressing rooms , and a 14-foot scenery and rigging loft . It was wired for electricity and had floor lights installed by the Okanogan Light and Power Company . A large chimney was added a few months later . An opening dance was held inside before the wood floor had been finished . The auditorium was used for plays , conventions , masquerade balls and basketballs games thereafter . Advertisements of local business that gave contributions toward its construction adorned the original backdrop . New scenery and backdrops , painted by W.P . Davis of Seattle , were added in 1911 .
