Matsura , Frank , 1873-1913 .
Description
Three steam shovels from Wenatchee , a 3,000 lb . hammer from the U.S . Reclamation Service Office , and the skills of the local worker , helped to build the Okanogan Steel Draw Bridge within one year . As seen here, two workers sit upon suspended seats to work on the forty-two foot high steel beams . Mr . Nash , a county-hired contractor from Olema , positioned three cement piers underneath the large beams of the bridge . The piers helped stabilize the bridge , which spanned 200 feet across the Okanogan River .
