Description
This photograph , entitled "Aiming " by Matsura , shows a group of men standing in a row and taking aim at an unknown target . Some of the more popular animals hunted in the area were game birds such as grouse , prairie chicken , sage hen , partridge , duck , Sandhill crane , swan , snipe , goose and brant . Mongolian pheasants and quail were prohibited until 1912 . Black bears were also a prized find , and usually took traveling to the secluded mountain regions above Conconully to find them. Deer were also popularly hunted . Nuisance animals , such as coyotes , were killed due to their threat to game birds . Rabbits were hunted because they ate and killed the young fruit trees of orchard plantings .

Original photographic prints were scanned as 300 dpi TIFF files on a Microtek 9600XL scanner. 72 dpi JPEG files were then added to the CONTENT database at the WSU Libraries.
