Photographer
Matsura , Frank , 1873-1913 .
Description
A family stands with a string of birds , shot during a recent hunt while on vacation in the mountains . The mother and her teenage daughter hold the birds , while a little girl and small boy hold the shotguns . Camping was a popular summer pastime , an opportunity to enjoy the outdoors and relax--away from the scorching heat of the city . Among the more used camping areas were in the mountains behind the town of Conconully , along both branches of Salmon River , the Sinlahekin and Touts Coula Rivers , Loomis , Loop Loop Creek , Omak Creek and Moses Meadows . Many of the areas could not be accessed by wagon and required pack horses--harkening the vacationers back to a period of pioneering adventure .
