Matsura , Frank , 1873-1913 .
Description
The night crew for the Conconully Dam pose for Matsura at the dam site . The Reclamation Service installed an electric light plant in the spring of 1909 , so that crews could work around the clock . Finding workers in the area was a problem early on in the construction phase . 1906 and 1907 were both tough years for finding men willing to work in such unfavorable labor conditions . However , a strike on the first week of May 1907 , resulted in a pay increase of twenty-five cents per day , and cookies--three times a week . By 1908 , labor conditions had improved and significant progress was made toward Conconully Dam's completion .
