Judge W.C . Brown and Mule Team at Entrance to Dr . Pogue's Place , ca. 1909
Photographer
Matsura , Frank , 1873-1913 .
Description
Judge William C . Brown went sometimes with Matsura on picture taking excursions . Here he is seen stopped on the righthand side of the road with a mule team . They are just at the entrance to the orchard and residence of Dr . J.I . Pogue . Matsura took pictures at Dr . Pogue's home , as he was one of the prominent and oldest orchardists in the area . His trees were substantially grown , and were useful to show an orchard's capability in Okanogan . In 1909 , the Okanogan Commercial Club used Matsura's pictures of Dr . Pogue's place to prove that, while all the other towns in Washington had lost their peach crop due to frost , Okanogan's perfect climate had protected the area's peaches from ruin . In 1910 , the Great Northern Railroad used his photos in their annual Washington Booster Bulletin .
