Description
As early as 1908 , Okanogan had limited telephone service . The first came from the independent telephone line of the Okanogan County Telephone Company . The line extended from Riverside to Okanogan , and soon encompassed Omak . Three phones were installed in Okanogan , one at the department store of Davidson and Richards & Co . (later known as Elgin , Nelson & Co.) , one at the Okanogan Valley Bank , and a third phone at the South Half Land Company , a real estate office . In 1910 the Okanogan County Telephone Company was bought by the Okanogan Telegraph and Telephone Company and many more business and residential numbers were added . Matsura's shot shows the dark outlines of a multiline telephone pole against the backdrop of a promising sunrise .
