Description
Harry Folmsbee (driver's seat) sits in his EMF automobile as he and four other passengers munch on apples . In 1908 , the Studebaker Company signed on as distributing agent of a middle to low end priced car , the EMF 30 , manufactured in Detroit by Barney Everitt , Billy Metzger , and Walter Flanders . It was designed by William F . Kelly . The EMF 30 cost over $400.00 more to make than the price of the number one selling car at that time , the Ford . To compete , EMF bought the rights to a cheaper 20 horsepower car , designed by A.O . Smith and James Heaslet . The "EMF (Flanders) 20 " sold for $750.00 , around the same price as a five passenger Ford at that time . In 1912 , two years after purchasing his first EMF , Mr . Folmsbee became the Studebaker EMF 30 and the Flanders 20 auto agent for the Okanogan area .
