Description
Hotel Occidental , also known as Jones ' Hotel , held a steady business during the steamboat season--usually late April to August--when the Okanogan River swelled . Many visitors to Riverside stopped here for the night when they came to pick up ordered goods brought in by freight wagon or steamer . The Occidental , built by a man named Jones in 1907 , burned to the ground in 1913 . While it was in operation , business was good . It slowed down , however , when the Great Northern Railroad Company bypassed Riverside in 1913 after promising news that it might be chosen as a depot site . The Cooper Hotel in Riverside burned down soon after in 1915 , leaving the town with no hotel at all .
