Description
Talk of the Great Northern Railroad coming to the Okanogan Valley began as early as 1908 . However , right of way difficulties slowed down the construction of the track , and the line--running from Wenatchee to Oroville--was not completed to Okanogan until June , 1913 . The sign on the picture of this refrigerated boxcar reads : "Great Northern , Okanogan Valley Apricots 'First Car Fruit Over New Branch , G.N . Railway ' Okanogan , Wash . July 30th 1913. " Sometimes , Great Northern and other railroad companies carried a traveling exhibit car as a promotional tool to persuade people to travel to towns on one of their newest lines .
