Title
A Pyramid of Apples on Display , ca. 1911
Photographer
Matsura , Frank , 1873-1913 .
Description
Using a quarter and a ruler to show comparative size , Matsura places nine shiny apples in a pyramid for a display photo . Each apple has a letter written on it in white , which , when put together , spell out "OKANOGAN ". The display , or picture , was most likely used for a county fair or exhibit boxcar traveling east . Okanogan usually competed against (and sometimes defeated) Wenatchee growers in state fair competition . However , in county fairs there was little competition to place against the high quality of the fruit produced in Okanogan .
