Description
Mr . Daniel I . Hopkins (holding horse reins) shows his class of Okanogan High School boys how to judge stock during a lesson in animal husbandry . Hopkins , a recent graduate of Washington State College in Pullman , was hired in 1911 because of his knowledge in science and agriculture . At that time , the town of Okanogan pushed as necessity the need to educate its children on matters of the farm . The photo appeared in the State Department of Education's annual periodical , "Agriculture in Public Schools " for May , 1912 . Standing on the far right of the picture is student and basketball player , Merrit Larrabee .
