Photographer
Matsura , Frank , 1873-1913 .
Description
Okanogan's High Steel Bridge connected the town to the east side of the Okanogan River and the South Half of the Colville Indian Reservation . Built in 1910 , the bridge first had to pass materials and height regulations set up by the War Department . The War Department confirmed that its 58 foot low water clearance would be enough for any of America's ships to pass under . The president of the Puget Sound Bridge and Dredging Company , Mr . S.H . Hedge , designed the cantilever style bridge . It spanned a distance of 200 feet . Materials for its construction were brought down river via steamboat . In this photo the Steamer "Okanogan " passes underneath the bridge .
