Photographer
Matsura , Frank , 1873-1913 .
Description
The picture shows the recently completed Conconully Dam and its embankments , core , and spillway . A lone man stands on the top of the dam's core . The ledge-rock spillway is in the upper right hand corner of the photograph , cut into the spur on the west-side of the dam . The purpose of the spillway was to safeguard the dam from erosion , should the river flood . One hundred and eighty feet long , the sides and bottom of the spillway were lined with concrete . This open cut channel diverted the water around the dam .
