Description
The photograph shows the progress of the Conconully Dam , approaching completion of the last level of second stage flume . The image also shows the dam's spillway , excavated from a spur of Peacock Mountain on the west side of the dam . Its purpose was to safeguard the dam from erosion should the river flood . One hundred and eighty feet long , the sides and bottom of the spillway were lined with concrete . This open cut channel diverted the water around the dam . The reservoir and surrounding hills are in the background .
