Description
Marker commemorates lamáta (The White Bird Battle) , where the Nez Perce won a victory on 16th June 1877 against Capt . Perry of the U.S . Army leading 111 men- 11 volunteers stationed to the Rock hills on his left , 40 men from Co . F on the Front "line " 40 men from Co . H on Right , and the rest holding the horses in the rear . Perry lost 34 soldiers killed , 2 soldiers wounded , and 2 volunteers wounded , while the Nez Perce had only 3 wounded and recovered almost 63 rifles with ammunition .

Digitization
Original photographic prints were scanned at 24 bit color, with 3000 pixels by the long side, for master TIFF files on an Epson Expression 10,000 XL scanner. Prints were then scanned at 24 bit, with 600 pixels by the long side, as jpeg files. These JPEGs were then added to the CONTENTdm database at WSU Libraries.
