Description
The statue of Cybele shows characteristics that reflect the mother goddess so prevalent in various guises throughout Anatolia in ancient times . The missing hands would have been reaching out , offering fertility . She wears a three-tiered headdress (polos) . The top tier depicts various temples of Ephesus , indicating Artemis ' sovereignty over the city . Figures of bulls and lions cover the torso and surround her head .
