1 print ; engraving , 29 x 18 cm . Volume 3 . Page 328 . Title translates as "Chinese Airs ". The author comments in some detail on the lack of a Chinese written system of recording music , and the amazement of the Chinese Monarch at the ability of European musicians to 'learn ' music almost instantly by writing it out . Chinese music was, according to the author , learned almost solely by rote memorization , and thus rarely changed .
