Plate 7 . In which it is shown that the Tlaxcalans gave many presents and provisions to Cortes . Also shown at the bottom left are a number of women who were given , some say they were enslaved to give service to the Spanish , and some say they were daughters of royal families to marry the captains of Cortes in order to bind the Spanish and Tlaxcalans together , as was customary .
