Description
Mycenae's famous "lion gate " entrance was built from enormous "Cyclopean " stones so large only a Cyclops could lift them, or so the ancient Greeks believed . According to legend , Atreides lived in Mycenae , a fortress town that sent troops to fight at Thermopylae during the Persian wars . Argos conquered Mycenae in 468 BC , although the city remained populated until the end of the 3rd century AD .
