Description
In this piece written by the editor of the Daily Journal , a publication from Walla Walla , Washington , the extremist component of the temperance movement is discussed . The author derides outside activists within the movement for chiding the women of the town for their men's misgivings . He states , "Women have long enough borne the burden and heat of the day in assuming men's sins. " The temperance movement often went hand-in-hand with the suffrage movement , a partnership which some scholars blame for the delay in women gaining access to the polls in the territory of Washington . Elizabeth Tannatt was very active in both movements .
